The End of That…

I had my first and last day of my Tech Writing class today. I sat through the first class of going over what the course would be about and reviewing the syllabus… and decided halfway through that it is, quite simply, not at all for me. So, I just withdrew from it. I’ll sell my book back later today or tomorrow and that will be that. It’s so funny to me that all it took was one class for me to realize. I just knew. Every part of me just seized up with a kind of anxiety about it that would never pass. I am not interested in it at all…  I know that if I were to get the certification, I’d be so much more employable… but it would be doing work that I really do not want to do. Not that I know what I want to do. I’ll find other options, I’m sure. Since I’m not going to be pursuing that class (or the other 2 that follow it in the Tech Writing certification cognate), it means that I’ll most likely be graduating this semester.  This introduces a whole series of problems… which I’ll go into at another time because a public computer lab is not the place to start thinking about topics which only deliver one into the not-very-loving arms of a panic attack. My (last ever) history class looks like it will be very interesting. The professor seems to be very energetic. There are a few familiar faces in there, not that it really bothers me… but it’s always nice. I saw Toyin today and talked to Dr. Stewart. I wish I could take another class with Dr. Stewart. Going on the study abroad trip with him last summer was probably the best time I’ve had during university. I saw Dr. K. in the parking lot as I was leaving to go to Starbucks. It feels weird not taking a course with her this semester. I still have 30 minutes to kill before my last class. I suppose I could spend it finishing Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, or, better still, reading for one of my classes. P.S. I keep seeing people that are dressed so STRANGELY. Today it is people in cowboy hats and yesterday it was a goth boy with eyeliner drawn in a silly design.

    What exactly is tech writing?

  2. flameth Says:

Mostly it involves writing manuals and other kinds of documents for engineering and IT companies.

It would be such a useful thing to be able to do, but I just don’t have the time for the class and I would find it absolutely soul-killing.

Soul-killing is kind a tepid word for that kind of job, don’t you think? O_o

That’s supposed to be “kind of a.” I should probably go to sleep…
